This is no longer a trend—it’s the default reality. Desktop-first configurators risk excluding the majority of users.

This was reinforced by my own 2023 research for HOME Configurator 1.0, where over 60% of participants reported preferring mobile for navigation.

The Accessibility Advantage

Mobile devices don’t just match desktop—they can surpass it for accessibility:

• Integrated audio & speech tools: Voice assistants, text-to-speech, and integrated screen readers are built into the OS—no special setup required.
• Camera-based input: The potential for AR-based customization is far easier to integrate natively on mobile.
• Haptic feedback: Immediate tactile cues that enrich interaction, especially for visually impaired users.
